Super Bowl 50 is going to be the one to watch, even if you’re not a diehard football fan. This golden anniversary game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers is being played in California for the first time in over a decade.

Whether you’re cheering along with your roommate or joining a massive viewing party, these simple and healthy Super Bowl snacks will satisfy everybody. Each recipe can be adapted for vegans, too!

Broccomole Guacamole Substitute

Sure, avocados provide healthy fat, but too much of a good thing is never good. Swap out the avocados for vitamin-rich broccoli, and enjoy this creamy green dip all night long. In fact, you’ll love it so much, you probably will make it the next day again for breakfast and lunch! You’ll need a blender, but chances are your hall mixologist has one to lend. So make sure that you have all the ingredients, and you’re good to go.

Overcook broccoli in lightly salted water until limp; drain well. Add cooked broccoli to blender. Add all other ingredients. Blend at low-to-medium speed until smooth. Add more olive oil as needed. Transfer to serving bowl. Serve with chips, crackers, or raw vegetables.

Touchdown Taco Dip

Tacos are delicious, but they’re pretty messy to eat around the TV. Throw together this vegetarian taco dip and serve with tortilla chips (baked, if you can find them). You’ll get a similar taco taste in no time. So check what you need for this dish, go through the instructions below and start cooking so that you have your taco dip ready before the game.

Spread refried beans on bottom of pie plate or casserole dish. Layer guacamole over beans. Add pico de gallo on top. Garnish with black olives if desired.

Alternatively, make single-serving dips by layering ingredients into individual plastic cups. Lactovegetarians can add a bit of shredded cheese and sour cream before the pico de gallo. Just be careful to keep the fat content as low as possible.

Fan-Favorite Fruit Skewers

Serving fresh fruit at a party might seem like something your mom would do. But fruit adds color to the table and makes a great light dessert. Jazz things up by creating a rainbow of fruits on skewers. Look through the list of the fruits you need and go ahead, prepare this healthy and unbelievably tasty desert.

Calculate how much fruit you’ll need to make one skewer per party guest. Purchase pre-cut fruit at the supermarket or cut it yourself. Add fruits in order listed above to create a rainbow effect. Lay skewers on a tray or plate and serve. Lactovegetarians can dip fruit in a prepared fruit dip, yogurt, caramel, or chocolate sauce.

Bucking Bronco Popcorn

Leave the regular buttered popcorn and kettle corn for movie night. Spice up your Super Bowl party with this delicious and healthy red-hot popcorn. The nutritional yeast adds a cheesy flavor and loads of B vitamins, and the spices will rev up your metabolism!

Ingredients:

  • Popcorn as you like it: for the microwave, stovetop, or air popper
  • Nutritional yeast (not baker’s or brewer’s yeast)
  • Chili powder
  • Cumin
  • Paprika
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Pop popcorn as usual. Transfer to serving bowl. For every 4 cups of popped corn, add 1 t. nutritional yeast and about ¼ t. each of chili powder, cumin, and paprika. Toss well. If you’re feeding many guests, serve the red pepper on the side. Otherwise, add to taste.

You don’t need a gourmet kitchen or tons of extra cash to create mouthwatering Super Bowl recipes on campus. Quick and easy, these treats are sure to please the crowd.
